For Gemstones

A gemstone or "gem"  is a piece of mineral, which, in cut and polished form, is used to make jewelry or other adornments. In modern times gemstones are identified by gemologists.The first characteristic a gemologist uses to identify a gemstone is its chemical composition. For example, diamonds are made of carbon (C) and rubies of aluminium oxide (Al2O3). Next, many gems are crystals which are classified by their crystal system such as cubic or trigonal or monoclinic. Another term used is habit, the form the gem is usually found in. For example diamonds, which have a cubic crystal system, are often found as octahedrons.

Many precious and semiprecious stones are used for jewellery. Among them are:
    Amber, an ancient organic gemstone, is composed of tree resin that has hardened over time. The stone must be at least one million years old to be classified as amber, and some amber can be up to 120 million years old. t is said to bring good health and power. It also symbolizes truth and faith and it is the birthstone for January



 








Amethyst has historically been the most prized gemstone in the quartz family. It is treasured for its purple hue, which can range in tone from light to dark. The amethyst is the birthstone for the month of February. Amethyst jewelry is popular today as symbolizing eternal love. It also symbolizes sincerity and security.






Jade is most commonly associated with the colour green but can come in a number of other colours, as well. Jade is closely linked to Asian culture, history, and tradition, and is sometimes referred to as the stone of heaven.




    Emeralds are one of the three main precious gemstones (along with rubies and sapphires) and are known for their fine green to bluish green colour. Emerald is the birthstone for the month of May. It has a vivid and saturated rich green color with a high degree of transparency. Emerald symbolizes fidelity and love.









 







Jasper is a gemstone of the chalcedony family that comes in a variety of colours. Often, jasper will feature unique and interesting patterns within the coloured stone. Picture jasper is a type of jasper known for the colours (often beiges and browns) and swirls in the stone’s pattern.





    Quartz refers to a family of crystalline gemstones of various colours and sizes. Among the well-known types of quartz are rose quartz (which has a delicate pink colour), and smoky quartz (which comes in a variety of shades of translucent brown). A number of other gemstones, such as Amethyst and Citrine, are also part of the quartz family. Rutilated quartz is a popular type of quartz containing needle-like inclusions.
















Rubies are known for their intense red colour and are among the most highly valued precious gemstones.. In Sanskrit, the word for ruby is „ratnaraj”, meaning king of precious stones. Ruby is the birthstone for the month of July. With its translucency and depth, it is one of the most eye-catching of the gemstones. Ruby is said to open one’s heart to love and also heals heart’s wounds. Ruby symbolizes enthusiasm, strength, and love.







Sapphire -The most popular form of sapphire is blue sapphire, which is known for its medium to deep blue colour and strong saturation. Fancy sapphires of various colours are also available. Sapphire is the birthstone for the month of September. The sense of serenity that the velvety and vibrant colors of sapphire bring has won the hearts of many jewelry lovers. Sapphire is said to express commitment and loyalty. Sapphire also symbolizes serenity and truth.





















Turquoise  is found in only a few places on earth, and the world’s largest turquoise producing region is the southwest United States. Turquoise is prized for its attractive colour, most often an intense medium blue or a greenish blue, and its ancient heritage.
















Aquamarine is the birthstone for the month of March. It is a blue variety of beryl. It is light blue or blue green in color and the higher quality ones have clear bright colors and sparkles. It is associated with water and symbolizes understanding and happiness.





















Girls’ best friend, diamond, is the birthstone for the month of April. No gemstone can match the fire and the brilliance of diamond. The diamond is treasured for its beauty, rarity, durability, and glamour. Diamond stands for purity, eternity, and courage.

The  quartz citrine is the birthstone for the month of November. It is yellow-orange in color and the name itself comes from the French word for ‘lemon’. It is a popular affordable alternative to diamond or yellow sapphire. Citrine symbolizes hope, health, and fidelity.











Blue topaz is the birthstone for the month of December. It has a bright blue color and is transparent. As its distinct color goes well with any outfit, it is popular among jewelry lovers. Blue topaz symbolizes strength, wisdom, and courage.
